The New 1.6L Ford Fiesta Engine
The Ford Company released its initial generation of Ford Fiestas in 1976 as a response to the myriad European competitors' series' of tiny, fuel efficient, front wheel drive vehicles, which were then growing in popularity around the world.
Although marketed in Europe with a smaller, less powerful Ford car engine, in the United States the Ford Fiesta was given a 1.6 liter Kenta powerhouse for this small economy automobile. This Ford car engine came with all four cylinders mounted in a line, a simpler and smoother design that allowed for greater fuel economy, and was equipped with both an air pump, and a catalytic converter (novel for its time) to further improve on emissions.
The Fiesta was popular for its diminutive size and when a sports model was added to the European market a few years later, the XR2 with a 1.6 liter Ford car engine similar to American models but with a few tweaks for improved muscle, it became a boy racer cult phenomenon. This lightweight Ford car engine delivered a stunning performance of 0 to 60 miles per hour in 9 seconds and a top speed of 105 miles per hour. Due to this and other successful marketing techniques, the Ford Fiesta quickly overtook the Vauxhall Chevette for a short stint as England's top selling supermini.
In 1983, a second generation Ford Fiesta was introduced featuring many interior and exterior design updates, as well as a leaner, cleaner, and greener Ford car engine with a modernized cylinder head and carburetor to reflect current environmental concerns. This new model once again conquered the charts as England's bestselling supermini where it remained for its production life of 6 years.
Over the years, the Ford Fiesta has undergone many generation upgrades which have resulted in improvements to both the body shape and the design of the Ford car engine. Many of these, however, were targeted strictly to European markets and not sold in the United States.
30 years after its debut appearance on the international automobile market, the Ford Fiesta was reincarnated as an ultra-modern, futuristic supermini, which received rave reviews. The sixth generation Ford Fiesta with a number of Ford car engine designs including the 1.6 liter, available for either gasoline or diesel, was the first Fiesta to be marketed in the United States since the original 1970's model.
Years ahead of its time, this revolutionary among cars has an interior like a spaceship. Equipped with steering wheel button controls, multifunction display panels, and USB interface, the sixth generation Ford Fiesta has been named Car of the Year' by What Car? magazine. And the optional red glow interior ambient lighting only adds to the surrealism of the experience.
The 1.6 liter Duratec Ford car engine delivers a kicking 120 horsepower and approximately 28 miles per gallon in the cityor up to 40 on the highway. There is also an ECOnetic model of the 1.6 liter Ford car engine, available in European and Asian markets. This environmentally golden Ford car engine has an extra diesel particulate filter and emits as low as 60 grams of carbon dioxide per mile, effectively exempting the vehicle from required excise duty.
